As a waxcarver who loves to carve intricate pieces of jewellery, I have always found it a chore to clean up tiny, difficult to reach details on my castings. Tiny bits of emery stuck on toothpicks, fibreglass brushes, and endless other things, tried them all but nothing really made my life massively easier.
The New years party on the 16th of January was a special event this year, celebrating 40 years of the IPG. With little appetite amongst the members for Black Tie dinners of yore, the committee opted for adding a little sparkle to our regular start of the year knees-up. Planning began in November 2024 with a group being set up to manage the event. Particular mention to Stasia Parker FIPG, Danila Tarcinale FIPG and Zoe Harding FIPG for their hard work on the preparations, table decorations, balloons, lights and invite design. (Top tip for anyone thinking of organising similar, check if the venue has a PA system before discussing options over several days via WhatsApp.)
For the last two years, we’ve hired a room for our AGM at the City Pride pub in Farringdon. In the past we’ve borrowed a room in the Goldsmiths Hall. A very grand place to be sure, but it made the event very austere and the post event socialising almost non-existent. By comparison, the current incarnation of the AGM is a far more sociable and relaxing affair.
