Description
Tomiko Ravn – Ravn School of Arts & Crafts Ltd.
Education/Teaching is my passion.
I’m an Enameller, Jeweller & Silversmithing for small works and making boxes. I won many prizes at the College and won some the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council, Senior awards in past.
My enamelling works are unique and one off hand made combined with high skills of jewellery techniques, silversmithing’s skills and engraving.
I like making the natural world enamelling works such as Dragonfly, Insect, Butterfly, Bird & Flower(Orchid is my favourite design and a project to make). Works would be 2D with height and depth as possible.
Dragonfly could be made on Plique-a-jour Wings on spring to tremble, textured/enamelled Body set with stones.
Applying wet transparent enamel, textured surface by engraver and gross finishing enhance the works with light reflection. Works will be a Brooch, Pendant, Necklace, Choker & Tiara and they can be detached.
Enamelled Birds are my favourite projects to make. I made the Birds, ‘Robin’, ‘Parrot’, ‘King Fisher’ & ‘Black Bird’.
Along with taking my own commission works for enamelling, I’m working for the Charity Organisation, The Creative Dimension Trust and teach enamelling and I’m the assistant teacher to Paul Ravn for jewellery making
at the Goldsmiths’ Centre.
To teach 14-19 years old beginner ( at the Goldsmiths’ Centre ), it’s hard work, but on the other hand, it’s a joy to find out young people’s talent. Some young people go to the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Foundation Programme and an apprenticeship and go to work on trade. It’s in future with this trade and is very pleasant to watch.
