Unlocking Design Excellence: A Masterclass in 2D Hand Rendering with Janet Weller
The event, organised in collaboration with the Goldsmith Centre and Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council, underscores the commitment of both organisations to fostering excellence and innovation within the jewellery sector.
The exclusive masterclass will be held by the esteemed Chairwoman of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths, award-winning designer and goldsmith Janet Weller. This is an unmissable opportunity for anyone in the jewellery industry looking to elevate their design communication and master the art of 2D hand rendering.
On Monday, July 7, 2025, from 6 pm to 7 pm (UK time), Janet Weller will host an illustrated online talk, delving into the crucial question: “What makes a jewellery design not only beautiful, but brilliantly communicated?” Attendees will be taken on a journey inside the craft of 2D hand-rendering, learning invaluable techniques for breaking down a design brief, translating concepts into compelling ideas, and ultimately building effective presentations that resonate with both clients and competition judges.
Janet Weller is a titan in the jewellery design world, boasting an impressive track record of over 20 Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards since 2002, including 6 Golds and six sponsored awards. Her exceptional skill in 2D hand rendering has been recognised with the prestigious prize in this category in both 2023 and 2025. This talk presents a rare opportunity to gain insights from one of the industry’s most celebrated talents.
“Being able to host this session is a huge honour, and a chance to share the 2D hand-rendering skills, techniques and tips that I have gathered throughout my career,” explains Janet Weller. “I look forward to delivering a session that is highly informative, inspiring, and educational, giving attendees a chance to ask questions and feel more equipped and accomplished in their design process.”
The online talk will be held via Zoom, and is offered on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, with tickets priced at £5 or £10, making this accessible to all.
